The Election Commission Expects to Know Bangkok Governor Election Results by 9 PM, Confident in Election Officers After Lessons Learned

The Chairman of the Election Commission visited Ban Bang Kapi School to inspect the readiness for the Bangkok Governor and Council elections. He expressed confidence that election officers will perform without errors after applying lessons learned. Election results are expected by 9 PM, targeting a 70% voter turnout, which is 10% higher than the previous election.

On 27 June 2026, Mr. Narong Klanwarin, Chairman of the Election Commission, along with his team, visited Ban Bang Kapi School in Bang Kapi district and Bueng Kum district office to observe and inspect the delivery and receipt of election ballots, ballot boxes, voting booths, and other equipment, as well as preparations for polling stations for the upcoming Bangkok Governor and Council elections scheduled for the next day.

He supervised every step of the election process to ensure maximum readiness, emphasizing convenience, accuracy, and public confidence. This included management, facilitating voters, and preparing election personnel in the field to reassure voters about the integrity of the Bangkok Governor and Council elections.

Mr. Narong stated that upon visiting the area, he found the election preparations ready for the next day. Special training was provided for polling station committee members, with polling station chiefs playing a key role in guiding their teams and preventing mistakes. He believes errors will be fewer this time. He added that while election officers serve on a voluntary basis, they bear responsibility, especially the chiefs and their teams.

He said errors should be reduced because they have intensively reviewed lessons learned and trained over 6,000 polling station chiefs, who are expected to lead their teams effectively. Mr. Narong also encouraged the officers, acknowledging the pressure involved since elections have winners and losers, but he believes the officers will act impartially, following rules and regulations.

Mr. Narong also expects unofficial election results to be known by 9 PM. He invited eligible voters to participate, noting that in the 2022 election, turnout was about 60%. This time, he hopes all eligible Bangkok residents will vote for Governor and Council members to help develop their local area, expecting around 70% turnout, which would be satisfactory.

Regarding candidates, he emphasized that entering politics requires awareness of the rules, especially election laws that carry criminal penalties for offenses such as vote-buying. He stressed that vote-buying is unacceptable and, if proven, could lead to political disqualification. He warned that buying votes is not worthwhile to gain local council or administrative positions.

The Election Commission also invites eligible voters to participate in the Bangkok Governor and Council elections on Sunday, 28 June 2026, from 8 AM to 5 PM at their designated polling stations, to collectively determine the future development of Bangkok through the power of democracy.
