Democrat Party Deploys 12 MPs to Scrutinize 2027 Budget Focusing on AI and Technology Issues

Abhisit revealed that the Democrat Party has assigned 12 key members to dissect the 2027 budget, focusing on AI and technology budget issues, and urges that the budget be made responsive to change.

On 28 June 2026 at Sawasdee Wittaya School, Watthana District, Bangkok, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party-list MP and leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about preparations for reviewing the draft Budget Expenditure Act for fiscal year 2027, which the House of Representatives will first consider on 29 June before voting on 1 July. He said the Democrat Party has prepared about 10-12 speakers who will focus on the overall budget and its structure. Currently, investment budgets still rely on borrowing and tax revenues, with most used for routine expenses and debt repayment. Therefore, future budget restructuring is necessary. In the 2027 draft budget, he has yet to see changes in budget planning direction, even though budgeting should align with the country's needs and require many adjustments. However, there is still no sign of the budget being adapted to keep pace with changes.

Democrat MPs will also debate details of certain budgets, such as tackling drug problems and education. He expressed doubts about some budget projects, noting that agencies requesting funds often cite AI and technology, but the country has yet to gain commensurate benefits. This afternoon (28 June), the Democrat Party held a meeting with its MPs to prepare for the 2027 budget bill review scheduled for 29 June in the parliament, Abhisit said.
