Ballot Boxes for Bangkok Governor and Councilor Elections Closed Voters Who Missed Voting Urged to Report Reason to Preserve Rights

The Election Commission closed the ballot boxes for the Bangkok governor and councilor elections at 5:00 p.m., reminding eligible voters who could not vote in time to report their reasons from 29 June to 5 July to preserve their voting rights.

On 28 June 2026 at 5:00 p.m., election officials informed voters that the voting period had ended after polls opened at 8:00 a.m. throughout Bangkok. The voting atmosphere was subdued in many areas, compounded by a heavy rainstorm just before closing, which hindered some citizens from casting their votes.

However, Bangkok residents eligible to vote who missed voting due to urgent matters can report their reasons through five reporting channels. They must notify the local registrar (district chief) where they are registered within seven days before the election, from 21 to 27 June 2026, or within seven days after the election, from 29 June to 5 July 2026. The report must be in writing, stating their national ID number and registered address.

The five reporting channels are as follows:

1. Report in person

2. Authorize another person to submit on their behalf

3. Send by registered mail

4. Report via the website www.ect.go.th or the Smart Vote application

5. Report through the website of the Registration Office, Ministry of Interiorwww.bora.dopa.go.th
