Abhisit Affirms No Loss of Morale Despite Democrat Partys Defeat to Chadchart, Vows to Continue Oversight

Anucha announced his acceptance of defeat and joined in congratulating Chadchart on securing a second term as Bangkok Governor. Meanwhile, Abhisit affirmed that morale remains high, expressing confidence that the public recognizes the party's efforts and declaring their work will not be in vain as they continue oversight.

At 17:50 on 28 Jun 2026 at the Democrat Party headquarters, Anucha Buranapachaisri, the party’s Bangkok gubernatorial candidate, together with party executives including Abhisit Vejjajiva, party leader, Korn Chatikavanij, Satit Wongnongtoey, Sakolthee Phattiyakul, and deputy leader Kardee Liaoipiroj, held a press conference after the Bangkok governor election polls closed. Anucha expressed congratulations to Chadchart Sittipunt, the Bangkok gubernatorial candidate, stating that although vote counting was ongoing, he believed Chadchart would serve another term as governor for Bangkok residents. He also expressed hope that the policies he and the party proposed, especially those beneficial to the public, would not end with the election results but would be adopted if helpful and complement Chadchart’s policies, to which he was willing to offer support.

“I thank the people of Bangkok and our supporters who continue to have faith in the party and exercised their voting rights. I also hope this year’s turnout will exceed that of the previous election. I thank the party’s council candidates and executives for allowing me to be part of presenting ideas and policies. Most importantly, I thank every vote cast for me and our Democrat council candidates regardless of the number,” Anucha said.

“Mark” (Abhisit) affirms continued monitoring efforts and insists morale remains intact.

Abhisit added that he congratulated Chadchart and emphasized that regarding the Democrat Party’s proposed policies, if Chadchart sees they can enhance or benefit Bangkok residents, the party is fully prepared to support with data to ensure policies and projects succeed. On oversight, he reaffirmed the party will continue its work to protect the interests of Bangkok residents. Regarding the party’s council candidates, reports indicate several have been elected, close to previous targets, forming an important group to support and oversee the Bangkok administration on behalf of the Democrat Party.

“I thank many parties and the people of Bangkok. I understand our situation was disadvantaged and we could not overturn the results within the limited campaigning period. However, we have fulfilled our duties to the fullest. I affirm that our morale is not diminished because we believe the public recognizes what we have done, and every vote of support is not wasted. We will continue working as a political organization for the benefit of Bangkok residents and the public,” Abhisit said.
