Parliament Erupts as Seripisut Angrily Barred from Criticizing Prime Minister Accuses Sophon of Bias and Challenges Him to Swear an Oath

The debate over the 2570 budget bill intensified as Seripisut challenged Sophon to swear an oath, accusing him of lacking neutrality. He was angered after being forbidden from referencing Prime Minister Anutin's involvement in a Senate vote-rigging case. The Speaker ordered Seripisut to withdraw his accusations, while Bhumjaithai MPs continued their protests.

At 11:30 a.m. on 29 June 2026, reporters described the atmosphere during the debate. The first reading of the draft annual budget act for fiscal year 2570. , During the time when Police General Seripisut Temiyavet, a party-list Member of Parliament (MP) and leader of the Seri Ruam Thai Party, was debating, the atmosphere in the chamber grew tense as references were made to Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who has been formally charged in the 2024 Senate vote-rigging case. This prompted Supachai Jaisamut, a party-list MP of the Bhumjaithai Party, to protest the off-topic debate, leading to Speaker Sophon Sarum, presiding over the session, to warn MPs to stay on topic.

Police General Seripisut countered that he intended to expose past misconduct affecting the 2570 budget. He argued that if corruption occurred, how could the country be properly governed? This led Bhumjaithai MPs to continue protesting off-topic remarks accusing the Prime Minister. However, Seripisut persisted, alleging the Prime Minister was dishonest regarding the Senate vote-rigging and the 2026 general elections, citing the mass transfer of civil servants. This caused continuous protests from Bhumjaithai MPs, escalating until government and opposition MPs exchanged protests.

Despite the Speaker's attempts to warn, Seripisut responded that he understood both the protesters and the Speaker were aligned with the government and believed the rulings were biased. Consequently, Sophon immediately cut off Seripisut's microphone. Seripisut retaliated, refusing to accept accusations of bias against the Speaker, dismissing them as baseless feelings. The Speaker then ordered Seripisut to retract his claims that the Speaker was biased and aligned with the government. , Seripisut retorted by questioning if it was not true and challenged Sophon to swear an oath in parliament that he was not biased. Sophon replied that such statements had crossed a line, constituting disrespect toward the Speaker's duties. He warned that continued misconduct would lead to the suspension of the debate. Seripisut then declared he would no longer continue debating.
