The purpose was to monitor the situation and offer encouragement to business owners and local residents affected by the incident.
Mr. Assisit stated that around 23:00 on the night of 28 June 2026 GMT+7, approximately four men dressed in black used two motorcycles to plant a bomb inside the PT gas station on Road 15, Sateng Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yala. The explosion caused a severe fire, but there were no injuries or fatalities. Prime Minister Anutin, who was performing royal duties in Paris, France, as Minister in Honor, was informed and immediately ordered Mr. Assisit, together with the Fourth Army Area Commander, Police Region 9 Commander, administrative and security officials, to urgently visit the site, monitor the situation, and support those affected. The act was described as brazen, showing no fear of the law and causing distress and damage to the public.
“Although there were no injuries or deaths, the damage and morale impact on local residents are matters the government and Ministry of Interior will not allow the perpetrators to evade. They are determined to prevent such covert acts from recurring. Relevant units have been instructed to intensify intelligence operations to swiftly apprehend and prosecute the culprits. The gas station owner has insurance coverage. The provincial Public Works and Town & Country Planning Office is assessing damage to buildings and residences. The provincial Energy Office will expedite restoring fuel services, expected within one month. Meanwhile, the provincial Social Development and Human Security Office will provide aid to affected gas station workers during downtime. Related agencies are coordinating comprehensive support to enable residents to resume normal life promptly.”
Mr. Assisit added that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) police unit, together with the Forensic Science Center 10 police, have inspected the scene and found that the perpetrators used approximately 20 kilograms of homemade explosives concealed inside a fire extinguisher, detonated remotely. Only one of two bombs detonated; the other failed to explode and was safely disposed of by authorities. The recovered fragments and evidence were handed over to forensic police for scientific examination and identification to support intelligence operations in tracking down the perpetrators.
“We assure the public and business operators that the government, Ministry of Interior, Royal Thai Police, and the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Front will integrate efforts to promptly bring the offenders to justice. Meanwhile, police, military, Territorial Defense Volunteers, and other volunteers continue to strengthen security to protect the lives and property of all citizens closely. After the site visit, I convened a meeting with security and administrative agencies in the area to monitor the situation and enhance safety measures in line with the Prime Minister's and Minister of Interior's directives and concerns.
