The Interior Ministry Secretary-General visited the scene of a roadside pipe bomb attack in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province, and met with injured foreign nationals. He stressed compensation according to regulations and expedited road repairs to enhance security measures.
At 17:00 on 29 Jun 2026, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, Secretary-General of the Interior Ministry, visited the bombing site near Sapom intersection on the way into Tak Bai district, in Praiwan village, Praiwan subdistrict, Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province. Accompanying him were Mr. Narucha Kosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration; Mr. Sakra Kapilkarn, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Interior Ministry; Lieutenant General Narathip Phoynok, Commander of the Fourth Army Region; Mr. Boonchuay Homyamyen, Governor of Narathiwat; Mr. Saharat Wongsakulwiwat, Acting Advisor on Governance; Police Major General Prayong Kotsakha, Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police; along with heads of government agencies, district officers, security and administrative officials, and members of the press.
At 17:35, Mr. Arsit and his team proceeded to Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Hospital in Mueang Narathiwat district to visit those injured in the pipe bomb attack. They presented gift baskets and initial financial aid to the two injured individuals.
Mr. Arsit said that he, together with the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, the Fourth Army Region Commander, and the Narathiwat Governor, came to inspect the site of the pipe bomb attack, which occurred at around 11:00 that day. This incident is a continuation of bombings at a gas station in Yala province and in Pattani province. This latest attack appears to be linked to ongoing unrest in the three southern border provinces.
He added, "The government and the Interior Ministry, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, have not been complacent. The Prime Minister, from Paris, instructed me to visit the area and provide assistance and compensation to those affected as quickly and fully as possible. We learned that the victims were Malaysians traveling through the area. At the time of the explosion, a vehicle carrying volunteer defense officials returning from Yala was present, and the foreign nationals’ vehicle overtook them, which led to their exposure to the blast. Preliminary forensic investigation found the bomb was made from two gas cylinders joined together and ignited; these cylinders were not manufactured in Thailand. Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Regarding the road, the highway department will expedite repairs to restore normal conditions as soon as possible." Mr. Arsit stated.
He further said that Narathiwat province is well-prepared with integrated cooperation among administrative officials, security forces, military, and police. They regularly meet and share meals to unify intelligence. The governor closely monitors the situation with local forces in place. Regarding the pipe bomb incident, security officials have advised local administrative organizations to consider installing protective grills over roadside pipes to enhance prevention measures.
"Concerning aid to those affected, Narathiwat province will expedite assistance to the foreign nationals injured in Thailand. The driver sustained minor injuries, while the passenger suffered a bone fracture. Initially, the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) has provided 50,000 baht for the seriously injured and 10,000 baht for the minor injury victim. Vehicle repairs will also be arranged to restore them to their original condition. Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has granted 2,600 baht each, and the Narathiwat Red Cross has provided 3,000 baht for the seriously injured and 2,000 baht for the minor injury victim, in accordance with each agency’s regulations." Mr. Arsit added.
