“Pao Bhum” Welcomes Ministry of Finance’s Continuation of “Retirement Lottery” from the Pheu Thai Era: Time to Buy Lottery Tickets That Don’t Lose Money but Become Savings

“Pao Bhum,” former Deputy Minister of Finance, welcomes the Ministry of Finance’s continuation of the “Retirement Lottery” from the Pheu Thai era. It's time to buy lottery tickets that don’t lose money but turn into savings.

On 30 June 2026, Mr. Pao Bhum Rojanasakul, Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party and former Deputy Minister of Finance, expressed his congratulations after reports indicated that the Ministry of Finance is moving forward to continue the “Retirement Lottery” project (National Savings Fund lottery), a key policy innovation that was initiated and successfully implemented during the Pheu Thai government.

He praised the Ministry of Finance for adopting a policy beneficial to the public and internationally recognized as an impressive innovation, with plans to study the Thai Retirement Lottery model in depth. The Pheu Thai government at that time developed this policy and pushed the National Savings Fund Act to support the Retirement Lottery, which was officially published in the Royal Gazette as law. The National Savings Fund’s backend system is also ready to support the Retirement Lottery.

This project transforms the Thai people's penchant for gambling into a financial safety net, based on the concept: “Buy a lottery ticket, money is not lost, it becomes savings,” which will revolutionize how Thais save money.

Currently, the project is fully prepared, both legally—with comprehensive legislation completed—and technologically, with the National Savings Fund’s backend system developed to support the Retirement Lottery. Therefore, the Ministry of Finance can proceed with the project immediately.

The public can buy “Retirement Lottery” tickets at 50 baht each for a chance to win five prizes of 1 million baht, as well as front and back number prizes, with draws every Friday. Winners receive the million baht prize immediately. The key concept is “Buy a lottery ticket, money is not lost, it becomes savings,” because every baht used to buy the Retirement Lottery is saved in the buyer’s National Savings Fund account and all principal is returned when they reach age 60. Those older than 60 can also buy tickets, with a five-year saving period, after which all money is returned. If the buyer dies beforehand, the funds are transferred to their heirs according to the law.

“The Ministry of Finance’s move to proceed with the Retirement Lottery marks an important step to help create retirement security for Thai people. I offer encouragement to push this project to become concrete as soon as possible. Fridays bring chances to win and the joy of saving together,” he said.
