Supamas-Pattana Orders Crackdown on Illegal Steroid Production, Seizing 1.8 Million Units Worth 50 Million Baht

"Supamas-Pattana" ordered a crackdown on illegal steroid production sites manufacturing muscle-enhancing injections for export, seizing 1.8 million items valued at 50 million baht. The operation integrated efforts from the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the police to expedite arrests and provide comprehensive consumer support.

At 11:30 a.m. on 30 June 2026, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office overseeing the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), together with Mr. Pattana Prompat, Minister of Public Health, chaired a press conference announcing the crackdown on illegal anabolic steroid production for export inside a condominium in the Pattanakarn area. Also present were Police Lieutenant General Krisda Kanjanalongkorn, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police; Police Major General Sarut Kwangsopha, Deputy Commander of the Crime Suppression Division; Police Major General Kongkrit Lertsittikul, Commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division; Ms. Suphattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the FDA; Mr. Ronarong Poolpipat, Secretary-General of the OCPB; and Police Colonel Weerapong Klaithong, Superintendent of Division 4, Economic Crime Suppression Division. Also attending were Mr. Pradermchai Boonchuayluang, Advisor to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, and Ms. Patcharin Samsiripong, Secretary to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office.

Ms. Supamas said the government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, places great importance and concern on problems related to substandard health products and medicines, especially anabolic steroids used to stimulate muscle growth. Consumers, particularly athletes, bodybuilders, and the general public seeking rapid muscle gains, may fall prey to exaggerated advertising claims without realizing these products are illegally produced in non-standard locations. This poses serious health risks due to contamination, banned substances, or substandard ingredients, which can cause severe long-term damage to bodily systems and health.

This operation involved integrated cooperation among relevant agencies including the OCPB, Economic Crime Suppression Division, and FDA. They conducted in-depth investigations leading to search warrants and simultaneous raids on three illegal production sites in Suan Luang district, Bangkok. During the raids, officials exercised legal authority to inspect and seize large quantities of unsafe products with total damages exceeding 50 million baht. More than 1.8 million tablets and other items were confiscated, including:

- Finished anabolic steroid products in powder and liquid forms, as well as the chemical mannitol, totaling 61 types and 17,981 units.

- Unlabeled tablets stored in jars and tablets awaiting packaging, more than 42 types totaling approximately 1,321,200 tablets.

- Counterfeit packaging and labels bearing trademarks of various brands, totaling over 405,094 pieces.

- Production equipment such as vial capping machines, tablet filling machines, sealing machines, and manufacturing model printers, totaling more than 79 items.

It was also found that the offenders focused on illegal production for export abroad and online sales targeting specific groups, making it difficult for the general public to access accurate information.

Ms. Supamas ordered the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) to exercise strict authority under consumer protection laws in two areas: 1) Direct sales and online e-commerce businesses—OCPB will inspect businesses selling products online and verify direct sales business registrations, strictly enforcing the law against violators; and 2) Handling complaints, mediation, and legal action on behalf of consumers. OCPB will be a refuge for the public, opening complaint channels and, if widespread harm is found, has the authority to file lawsuits on behalf of consumers to claim damages and fully compensate affected citizens.

“I want to emphasize that the OCPB is a reliable support for the public. Although some health products fall under other agencies’ regulations, in terms of protecting rights, providing remedies, and fighting for consumer justice, the OCPB is prepared to take proactive action in collaboration with the FDA and police decisively.”

Consumers who have purchased products from these networks or have information about illegal steroid advertising can immediately report complaints via the OCPB hotline 1166, the website www.ocpb.go.th, the FDA hotline 1556, or the Economic Crime Suppression Division hotline 1135.
