Ms. Pataraporn Kengrungreungchai, or Councilor Nurse, is 37 years old and a native of Bangkok, born and raised in Bang Sue. She is affiliated with the People’s Party and is the eldest daughter of Mr. Sompong Kengrungreungchai, a former Bang Sue councilor who won elections under the Mod Ngan group in 1998 and later with the Thai Rak Thai Party in 2002.

Ms. Pataraporn completed her secondary education in the English program at Yothinburana School, class of 71, and was a Grade 10 exchange student in the United States. She also received a specialized certificate in Marketing Strategy for Executives from the University of Melbourne.

Work history of “Nurse” Pataraporn Kengrungreungchai

Before entering politics, she served as managing director of Thai Scrap and Metal Co., Ltd., a family business. She also founded a rental housing business. She has described her background as the eldest of four daughters from a Chinese-Thai family in Bang Sue, where the ground floor served as their office and the family lived upstairs. Growing up surrounded by a scrap metal buying and selling business, she was familiar with factories, warehouses, trucks, and trade from childhood. After graduation, she returned to manage the family’s scrap metal auction business for seven years, learning operations from the ground up. She was entrusted as managing director, applying her fashion knowledge to branding and improving management systems to achieve ISO:9001 certification. The company was recognized as a green industry by the Ministry of Industry and became one of Thailand’s first exporters of scrap metal, continuing to this day.

She then shifted to politics, running for councilor at age 33 under the Move Forward Party and was elected. She has stated that during her undergraduate studies at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, amid the Red Shirt protests at Ratchaprasong, she joined the student political group “Chulalongkorn Community for the People,” organizing demonstrations, seminars, and educational activities on democracy within the university, marking the start of her political interest.

Most recently, in the 2026 Bangkok gubernatorial and councilor elections, Ms. Pataraporn ran again for councilor in her original district and was re-elected for a second term. The People’s Party has decided to nominate her for President of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, given the party’s success in winning the most councilor seats, to drive six urgent agendas and reform Bangkok’s administration for real accountability.
