The Justice Minister revealed that the Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) is preparing to question the rider who personally delivered the package to the female flight attendant and will discuss with the Australian Federal Police in Thailand to investigate a larger operation. He emphasized that sentencing is at the discretion of the Australian court.
On 1 July 2026, Police Lieutenant General Ruthapol Nawarath, Minister of Justice, gave an update on the investigation into the case of a flight attendant arrested by Australian police for drug smuggling. He said that after the messenger who delivered the item to Ms. Meena at her condo contacted the police, the ONCB Secretary-General arranged to meet today at 10 a.m. to explain where the package was received from.
Regarding whether this will lead to a larger network, since Australian intelligence had clues prompting the search of this Thai airline flight attendant, Police Lieutenant General Ruthapol replied that this is factual and involves both Thailand and Australia. However, Australia has not disclosed information to us. Thus, this morning will involve questioning the rider who made the delivery. In the afternoon, the ONCB Secretary-General will meet with Australian agencies and the Australian Federal Police in Thailand to coordinate on the case details. Further information will be provided later. The key issue is who the rider received the package from and the communication channels used. As for the flight attendant’s penalty, if investigations show she only carried the item, the sentence is at the Australian court’s discretion. Thailand is gathering evidence to assist the Australian police.
Regarding whether this is an organized network, Police Lieutenant General Ruthapol said more details are needed. Thai authorities are nearly finished with their investigation. Yesterday, officials visited the mother’s home in Phayao Province but have not confirmed that it is the same network previously arrested by Australian police involving drugs smuggled out of Thailand.
