Supamas Sets 5 Major Tasks for Media Fund, Emphasizes Role of Safe, Creative Media for Equal Access and Media Literacy

Minister Supamas has outlined five major tasks for the Media Fund, highlighting the role of safe, creative media that allows children, youth, and the public to access, understand, and use media wisely and equally.

At 10:00 a.m. on 1 July 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and Chairperson of the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund Committee, presided over the opening of a workshop to develop the operational plan, financial plan, and budget for fiscal year 2027. She delivered policy directions at the Diamond Dome meeting room, 22nd floor, Queen’s Land Hotel, Bangkok. Attendees included Ms. Patcharin Samsiripong, Secretary to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office; Mr. Thanakorn Srisuksai, Manager of the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund; committee members; subcommittee members; experts; and fund executives.

Ms. Supamas said fiscal year 2027 is the final year of the fund’s second strategic plan (2023-2027), marking an important opportunity to review achievements and set future directions. The government, led by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, has assigned five policy tasks to frame the 2027 plan: shift the fund’s role from grant provider to co-creator with more flexible support methods; integrate with relevant agencies such as the Public Relations Department and MCOT Public Company Limited to develop local content creators and local heroes in every province; establish a joint Code of Conduct and support Thai digital platforms; create safe learning spaces for all ages through online threat awareness activities; and promote legal and regulatory reforms to overcome obstacles in developing creative works and intellectual property.

"These five tasks represent a shared responsibility to create a safe and creative environment where children, youth, and the public can access, understand, and use media wisely and equally. I am fully committed to pushing and supporting the 2027 plan to be practical and sustainably beneficial for the country. I also urge the fund to revise grant application criteria to be more flexible by reducing paperwork and selecting quality creators who communicate creative and socially beneficial content," she said.

The key role of the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund is to serve as the main government mechanism to promote and support the production of quality, creative, and socially safe media. It opens opportunities for networks, civil society, private sectors, and agencies to apply for funding to produce creative media such as television, radio, film, online media, or innovative media formats. The fund also supports prototype media with beneficial content that promotes culture, learning, and morality to provide positive choices for society. Additionally, it campaigns to raise public awareness, especially among children and youth, to analyze, filter, and select media critically to avoid becoming victims of unsafe media, by coordinating with government, private, and civil society networks to foster a good media environment.

Ms. Supamas added, as a mother herself, she understands that all parents worry about their children using online media. Children, youth, and the elderly are all vulnerable to deception by criminals who misuse modern media tools, as well as to incitement that fosters social hatred. Therefore, building understanding about choosing and receiving creative media is crucial. She hopes the fund will create safe, accessible learning spaces in daily life, where people of all ages can be aware of online threats and genuinely support each other.
