Ministry of Interior Orders Nationwide Crackdown on Drugs with 90-Day Sweep

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has accepted the Prime Minister's declaration of an uncompromising war on drugs, launching the strategic "Operation 90 Days". He has ordered governors nationwide to mobilize forces and deploy teams to decisively sweep and eradicate drugs within 90 days.

On 1 July 2026, Atthasit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, revealed that the ministry has received key policy directives and orders from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul to urgently integrate efforts under the goal “Relieve suffering, promote well-being, protect public peace, eradicate drugs, and defeat criminals.” Consequently, the Ministry of Interior has formulated the urgent action plan "Operation 90 Days: Executing the 90-Day Strategy to Eradicate Drugs," with intensive measures commencing today (1 July to 30 September 2026). He emphasized that all provincial governors must initiate the “Operation 90 Days” kickoff in their jurisdictions between 1–7 July 2026 by organizing activities to deploy administrative officials and security forces en masse, publicly declaring the war on drugs simultaneously to demonstrate seriousness and readiness to rapidly eliminate illegal substances within 90 days to achieve the highest objectives.

The operation focuses on three main dimensions: the “prevention dimension,” which aims to build a strong protective barrier starting from families, schools, and communities, targeting drug-free schools, workplaces, and villages.

The “suppression dimension” involves coordinated efforts to decisively block drug trafficking along neighboring countries’ borders and inside the country by setting up checkpoints, roadblocks, and at least one Special Task Force for Anti-Drug per province. The “remediation and rehabilitation dimension” focuses on bringing drug users and addicts into appropriate and voluntary treatment programs, with urgent pilot rehabilitation efforts underway in 31 provinces nationwide under the Quick Big Win project.
