"Rome" expresses concern that the shooting case of MP Kamolsak may be cut short, as intelligence might not prosecute key people involved in the case. He reveals a major phone operator admits sending data of 2 million phone numbers nightly to Police Region 9, raising suspicion about the authority used to request it.,
On 2 July 2026, Rangsit Rome, party-list MP of the Prachachart Party, spoke about the investigation progress into the shooting of MP Kamolsak Leevamo from Narathiwat on 20 March 2026. He said the firearm used by the perpetrator belonged to the Navy. There are reports that some important suspects connected to the case may not be prosecuted. Meanwhile, this issue also involves the transfer of personal data by a major phone operator, which sends 2 million phone numbers each night to the Police Region 9 Command. Our investigation found that the deputy commander, leading the fact-finding committee, has not accessed this data but it has been stored, supposedly to address unrest and crime issues. However, in practice, nothing has come of it. We question under what authority these 2 million numbers were requested. Past investigations show it was done under the Emergency Decree, which may be legally possible but not applicable in all districts—at least six districts have no emergency declaration. There have also been claims of invoking NBTC announcements, but those rules only require phone numbers be stored by service providers. This raises another problem: in the southern border provinces with many issues, one challenge is ensuring all parties fully comply with the law. We must find those behind the assassination attempt on MP Kamolsak. The parliamentary committee will meet to discuss this matter in detail again.
Rangsit Rome also expressed concern that this case may be prematurely closed with only low-level suspects apprehended. He stressed that the real masterminds must be found, because using a Navy firearm without fully tracing the truth will undermine confidence in the justice system and complicate the situation further in the three southern border provinces.
