Decentralization Committee Urges Legal Reform to Overhaul Local Recruitment Exams, Curb Corruption

The Decentralization Committee urged legal reforms to overhaul the local recruitment exam system to prevent corruption after the Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) rector failed to provide clarification. They believe a group of individuals is involved and called on those implicated to prove their innocence.

At 5:00 p.m. on 2 July 2026 at the Parliament, Mr. Kongkrit Chatmaleerat, a Member of Parliament for Ranong from the Bhumjaithai Party and Chairman of the Decentralization Committee of the House of Representatives, disclosed the outcome of the committee meeting. After inviting relevant agencies and individuals to provide information on alleged corruption in the recruitment of local government officials, particularly doubts about the exam process conducted by SWU, including the exam review and use of exam-checking files, he stated that the SWU rector's absence to explain to the committee is believed not to affect the exam or imply protection. The issue is considered an individual matter unrelated to the department or SWU as a whole.

Mr. Kongkrit also noted that this exam is not entirely related to SWU but may involve private companies that need to clarify whether they were involved in leaking exam content. Based on information received by the committee, it is believed that a group of individuals was involved in the wrongdoing. The committee intends to overhaul and amend laws concerning local government recruitment exams, studying the legal deficiencies. It is expected that those involved in the corruption of this local civil service exam will not evade investigation but must prove their non-involvement.
