The government is urging 11 million social security insured persons to promptly register for the Social Security Board election by 15 July to help drive workers' benefits, after discovering that only about 600,000 have registered to exercise their rights so far.
On 3 July 2026, Captain Phatdarasmit Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that this year's Social Security Board election, involving both employer and insured representatives, has attracted significant public interest. The Social Security Office will accept applications until 15 July. Those elected will play a direct role in setting policies, establishing management foundations, and overseeing the Social Security Fund’s operations to ensure transparency and maximum efficiency, in line with government policy.
For this board election, it is expected that the number of applicants will double compared to before. The insured side may see over 400 candidates, while the employer side may exceed 130. All candidates must be employers or insured persons at the time of application and have contributed continuously for at least 36 months (from July 2023 to June 2026).
Additionally, qualifications have been set to ensure maximum transparency in this election. Those with conflicts of interest, government officials in political roles, or political party positions are barred from candidacy. The government emphasizes the importance of every baht contributed by insured persons, aiming for a fair, transparent, and open election to select a new board to advance policies on benefits, medical care, pensions, and stable fund management.
Captain Phatdarasmit added that the election will take place on 27 September 2026, but insured persons and employers must complete their election registration beforehand; otherwise, they will not be able to vote. There are about 11 million eligible insured voters, but only about 600,000 have registered to vote so far. Among over 400,000 eligible employers, only about 4,000 have registered.
The government invites all employers and insured persons to promptly register to vote through three channels: the Social Security Office website, the SSO plus application, or in person at the Social Security Office by 15 July 2026. This will allow them to help determine the future of their own welfare.
