Government Proud as Thailand Ranks 8th Best Healthcare System Worldwide in 2026, Leading ASEAN with Quality, Accessible Care

The government announced positive news that Thailand's healthcare system ranked 8th best worldwide in 2026 and is the top in ASEAN, confirming efficient quality management and accessible treatment for all at affordable prices.

On 3 July 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed the good news that Thailand's healthcare system ranked 8th best in the world for 2026 according to a survey by the website Numbeo, the world's largest cost-of-living database and a crowdsourced global data platform based on user reports. It provides detailed insights on cost of living, housing price indicators, perceived crime rates, healthcare quality, transportation quality, and many other important statistics.

The top 10 countries with the best healthcare systems worldwide are ranked as follows: 1st Taiwan with 87.1 points, 2nd South Korea 82.9 points, 3rd Netherlands 81.1 points, 4th Japan 80.1 points, 5th Austria 78.9 points, 6th Ecuador 77.7 points, 7th Finland 77.6 points, 8th Thailand 77.5 points, 9th Denmark 77.2 points, and 10th Spain 77.2 points.

“Thailand’s healthcare policy highlights quality services at affordable prices, along with efficient management and widespread access to treatment for everyone, especially through the National Health Security scheme (the 30-baht universal coverage card). Both public and private hospitals maintain high standards, focusing on elevating health services to be comprehensive and equitable. This scheme offers free medical care for Thai citizens covering all levels of treatment, from common illnesses to chronic and high-cost diseases, with easy access using only a national ID card. The survey results further confirm that Thailand remains a key destination for medical tourism.”
