Government Orders State Pawnshops to Waive Interest for One Full Month in July to Support Farmers During Planting Season

The government has ordered state pawnshops across the country to waive interest for a full month throughout July for farmers, aiming to help reduce their expenses and improve financial liquidity during the planting season.

On 4 July 2026, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluayakorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government is concerned about farmers nationwide, especially during the planting season when high working capital is needed to produce crops. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) has partnered with the Treasury Department, or state pawnshops, to launch the “Alongside Farmers: Interest-Free” project, offering the special benefit of one month’s interest waiver on all loan amounts throughout July 2026 to help increase farmers’ financial liquidity and inject funds into the grassroots economy.

Regarding eligibility, the government has simplified procedures to avoid obstacles for the public, dividing customers into two groups: new customers with no previous pawn ticket history at the Treasury Department must bring their original ID card along with a farmer ID card or farmer registration booklet to receive the one-month interest waiver immediately. Existing customers who have already registered as farmers in the Treasury Department system only need to present their original ID card for identity verification to qualify.

Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi said the government aims to help ease farmers’ expenses and improve financial liquidity nationwide during the critical time when they need working capital to purchase production inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, or pesticides. Interested farmers can participate at any Treasury Department or state pawnshop branch nationwide during official hours (08:00–16:30), with continuous service during lunch breaks to provide convenience for all users.
