Anucha and Chai Nat Irrigation Officials Address Farmers Water Shortage Issues, Plan to Present Proposals to Government

Anucha, MP for Chai Nat from the Pheu Thai Party, together with irrigation authorities, visited local areas to hear farmers' concerns after they faced water shortages for rice cultivation. He confirmed he would bring the proposals to the government to help resolve the problem.

3 July 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Anucha Nakhasai, Member of Parliament (MP) for Chai Nat District 1 from the Pheu Thai Party, along with Ms. Pawa Nakhasai, his team; Mr. Worawut Jansawang, District Chief of Wat Sing; Mr. Chawalit Chalom, Director of the Chai Nat Irrigation Project; Ms. Jitthana Yingthawilapha, President of Chai Nat Provincial Administrative Organization; Mr. Somkiat Wongsamut, Mayor of Nong Noi Subdistrict Municipality; and other relevant agencies, visited to meet and understand the concerns of farmers in Wat Sing District and some farmers in Nong Saeng Subdistrict, Hankha District, at the dome building of Nong Noi Subdistrict Municipality, Wat Sing District, Chai Nat Province, after farmers in the area faced water shortages for rice farming.

Mr. Anucha told the farmers that Thailand is currently experiencing El Niño, causing intermittent rainfall in many areas and resulting in water shortages for rice cultivation. As their MP, he will take these hardships to the government to seek solutions for the irrigation system issues affecting farmers in upstream areas like Wat Sing District and Nong Saeng Subdistrict, Hankha District, Chai Nat. Some farmers are outside irrigation zones. He also urged local agencies to collaborate in solving these problems for the people.

The Director of the Chai Nat Irrigation Project said this visit was to listen to farmers’ difficulties because the Wat Sing field pump station cannot operate due to low water levels in the Chao Phraya River. The 12th Irrigation Office of the Royal Irrigation Department acknowledged the problem and increased water discharge from Bhumibol and Sirikit dams to raise the water level above 15.50 meters to enable the Wat Sing pump station, as well as the eastern and western Chao Phraya Basin fields, to have water for agriculture during the dry spell.

Currently, some areas of Chai Nat Province may face intermittent rainfall, but water has been allocated through the irrigation system across all areas to ensure farmers have water for rice farming during this period. From August to October, rainfall is expected to increase steadily, which should lessen the impact on farmers.
