“Pradorn” Orders Urgent Repair of Ang Thong Rockfill Dam Following Over 70-Meter Collapse to Prepare for Floodwaters

“Pradorn” inspected the rockfill flood protection dam behind Wat Chai Songkhram in Ang Thong, which had collapsed over a distance exceeding 70 meters, and ordered coordination with the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning to urgently repair it in preparation for floodwaters.

At 09:00 on 4 July 2026, Mr. Pradorn Prisananantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, and Mr. Kravee Prisananantakul, Member of Parliament for Ang Thong and Government Whip Chairman, along with Mr. Sarawut Phansangwon, Ang Thong Provincial Director of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, Mr. Arnop Suwanchana, Ban Hae Subdistrict Administrative Organization Chief, and relevant officials, visited the site to monitor the subsidence of the rockfill dam behind Wat Chai Songkhram, Ban Hae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ang Thong Province, where the flood protection rockfill dam had subsided along a stretch of more than 70 meters.

Mr. Pradorn inquired about progress on corrective measures and repairs after experts from the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning had inspected and assessed the damage. It was reported that next week, staff will conduct soil and riverbed surveys at the damaged site to gather data for planning the repair work.

Mr. Pradorn stated that he has instructed the Ang Thong Public Works and Town & Country Planning office to urgently coordinate with the central Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, expressing concern that if repairs are not completed before the flood season, the area could suffer further subsidence. He also requested that they work closely with local leaders responsible for rockfill dams along the riverbanks to survey other risk points that could experience similar incidents and seek preventive measures. The rockfill dams serve as the first line of defense against water pressure from the Chao Phraya River, protecting inner areas from flooding. In many parts of Ang Thong Province, such dams have prevented flood damage, so it is crucial to conduct these surveys and repairs simultaneously.
