Ministry of Interior Orders Tightened Security in 21 Border Provinces to Enhance Stability

The Ministry of Interior is advancing security upgrades in 21 border provinces to block all forms of threats and is ready to enforce disciplinary and criminal penalties on officials involved in illegal activities.

On 4 July 2026, Mr. Arsith Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, revealed the results of the Border Security Integration Center meeting, chaired by Air Chief Marshal Ukrit Boontanont, Supreme Commander. The key resolution focused on urgently reducing threats in three main areas: technology-related crimes (call center and online gambling gangs), human trafficking, and drug problems.

This approach aligns with the policy of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who also serves as Director of Internal Security Operations Command, emphasizing strong protection of citizens' lives and property.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior sent an urgent directive to governors of 21 provinces bordering Myanmar, Laos, and Malaysia, instructing them to swiftly develop annual border security operation plans tailored to local contexts. The plans should follow workshop guidelines covering three operational dimensions, coordinated between governors and provincial police commanders, focusing on prevention, suppression, and assistance, with strict penalties emphasizing that no one is above the law.

The Permanent Secretary firmly stressed that if any government official, whether a superior or subordinate, is found involved in wrongdoing or accepting illicit benefits, they will face strict disciplinary and criminal proceedings without fear of any influence, to ensure transparency and sustainable security for Thai society.
