Bhumjaithai Refutes Social Rumors Supachai Emphasizes Medical Cannabis Is Not for Recreation

Supachai clarified social concerns, affirming that Bhumjaithai has no policy to legalize cannabis for recreational use and urged all parties to stop using the issue for political purposes.

On 4 July 2026, Supachai Jaisamut, an MP from Bhumjaithai Party, posted on his personal Facebook to address criticism regarding cannabis issues. He noted that there has been a misunderstanding blaming Bhumjaithai for the current image of cannabis legalization. In reality, the party’s stance has never changed: it supports cannabis only for medical and health purposes, aiming to provide patients access to treatment and create proper economic opportunities for farmers.

“Removing cannabis from the narcotics list does not mean allowing unrestricted use. Bhumjaithai proposed a specific bill back in 2022, but it was rejected in parliament due to political reasons. This caused a legal vacuum and widespread recreational cannabis use over the past two years due to state neglect,” Supachai said. He added that the solution is not to block patient access again but to build an effective regulatory system with clear measures.

Supachai further revealed that last week the party formally submitted a Medical Cannabis Act bill to the House of Representatives. He urged MPs from all parties to urgently consider and pass the bill as soon as the parliamentary session opens in August 2026.

“A good public policy must not choose between patients and society; it must protect both simultaneously. Patients should not be denied treatment opportunities, and children and youth must be strongly protected. Only then can Thailand truly become a regional center for medical cannabis,” Supachai concluded.
