“Peoples Solar Power” Now Open for Online Applications, Sell Electricity Back to the State at 2.20 Baht per Unit for 10 Years

The government has opened applications for the “People's Solar Power” project through the MEA and PEA websites, allowing homeowners to turn their rooftops into power producers and sell electricity back at 2.20 baht per unit for 10 years.

On 5 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the People's Solar Power project offers homeowners the opportunity to install rooftop solar panels to generate their own electricity, reduce their electricity bills, and sell surplus power back to the grid. This initiative enables citizens to shift from electricity consumers to contributors in the country's clean energy production, helping reduce long-term reliance on fossil fuels.

Currently, citizens can apply online to join the project. Electricity users in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan can register via the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) system, My Energy, at https://myenergy.mea.or.th. Those in other provinces can apply through the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) system, PPIM, at https://ppim.pea.co.th/app/v1/project/solar/detail/6a3df059ee9f0e286c0a1766.

The project will purchase surplus electricity at a rate of 2.20 baht per unit for 10 years. Electricity sales are capped at a maximum of 5 kilowatts per meter. The application systems provide full details on applicant qualifications, required documents, and participation conditions.

The participation process is clearly defined: submitting an application online, verifying eligibility, announcing results, signing the power purchase contract, and inspecting the system before beginning power supply to ensure connections meet safety standards.

Ms. Ratchada said the government has tasked the Ministry of Interior, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and the Provincial Electricity Authority with integrating services into a One Stop Service to reduce steps and facilitate convenience for citizens, while promoting a clean energy transition across all sectors starting with households.

“This project not only helps citizens reduce their electricity bills but also gives every household the opportunity to produce clean energy, earn income from surplus electricity, and collectively contribute to the country’s energy security and sustainable environmental future,” Ms. Ratchada said.
