Wannoer believes that the peace talks will bring positive developments, involving Thai representatives and dissenting groups, primarily the BRN. He says it is natural for government popularity to decline, notes the intention to work hard despite being beset by problems, and smiles when asked about Deputy Prime Minister S.
On 6 July 2026 at the Government House, Wannoer Matta, advisor to the Prime Minister, commented on the BRN Peace Negotiation Secretariat's statement that ongoing unrest in the Patani region results from increased Thai military operations. He noted that Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Interior Minister, is scheduled to visit Malaysia from 9-10 July to meet Malaysian leaders and discuss with the Thai peace negotiation team. The Thai side is preparing talks with dissenting groups, with Malaysia acting as facilitator. The talks began in June and will hold a major meeting in September. Meanwhile, specific issues and developments in the region will be raised for further discussion between Thai government representatives and dissenting groups, mainly the BRN.
When asked whether this would cause the talks to stall, Wannoer said that according to initial reports from officials involved in preparations, the direction remains positive. He believes the September talks will conclude successfully after a two-year pause. Asked if the BRN group issuing the statement was authentic, he said he could not confirm which group it was. Many agree that meetings must be the main method to solve problems, but when incidents occur, the state must respond and cannot rely solely on talks, as public suffering requires government action alongside negotiations. He expressed confidence that the talks would yield good news.
He said the government intends to work hard despite being beset by problems and smiled when asked about Deputy Prime Minister S.
Wannoer Matta also commented on the decline in popularity of Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Interior Minister, citing multiple challenges. He said it is normal for those working to face difficulties. The Prime Minister and Cabinet intend to solve problems, but issues may be overwhelming due to domestic and regional situations. Therefore, they need morale to persevere, but most importantly, cooperation from all parties, especially national unity, is essential to support the government. When asked about rumors that the initial "S." refers to a deputy prime minister candidate, Wannoer smiled and said he was unaware and did not know if it was political news.
