Siriphong Discusses EV Motorcycle Taxi Association Coordination with Bangkok to Expedite Driver Registration Meetings

Siriphong discussed with the EV motorcycle taxi association and coordinated with Bangkok authorities to expedite meetings for driver registration, emphasizing that all agencies and applications must strictly comply with the law without exception.

On 6 July 2026, Mr. Siriphong Angkasungkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, met with Mr. Santi Patipanrat, President of the Electric Vehicle (EV) Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Association, and his team to follow up on issues affecting motorcycle taxi drivers and law enforcement regarding applications. The meeting included Mr. Thanachai Sinthuprai, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Transport; Mr. Kochasak Sirirattanamanawong, Assistant Secretary to the Minister of Transport; Mr. Panya Chupanich, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport; and Mr. Piya Yoma, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, held at the Ministry of Transport conference room.

Mr. Siriphong stated that the meeting discussed the association’s demands, including tackling illegal motorcycle taxi stands in various areas, setting fares for public motorcycle taxis, enforcing laws against drivers without public driving licenses, and noncompliance with uniform regulations. He urged accelerating legal actions against applications and drivers involved in identity misuse—where driver names and registered user names differ—as well as incidents causing passenger injuries, assaults on motorcycle taxi drivers, and cases of certain applications offering electric motorcycles for rental use.

Mr. Siriphong added that the Department of Land Transport is preparing to send a letter to Bangkok authorities instructing all 50 district offices to hold meetings to open driver registration. This aims to expand opportunities and organize services to better meet public needs. Regarding law enforcement against applications providing illegal vehicles, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has been enforcing regulations since 31 March 2026. The Department of Land Transport has continuously coordinated with this ministry and affirms that all agencies and application companies must strictly follow the law.

He emphasized that any illegal actions must be punished without exception. Concerning leniency for drivers without public driving licenses or using illegal vehicles on platforms until 30 September 2026, the Department of Land Transport is developing measures to implement a point-deduction system for applications, such as cases of unlicensed public driving or incidents involving violence. This system is expected to start on 1 October 2026 and is currently being submitted to the committee for approval and certification.
