Amphorn Urges Internal Security Operations Command to Clarify Detailed Drug Suppression Plan After Requesting Over 90 Million Baht for 2027, Questions Why Drug Problems Increase Despite Crackdowns

Amphorn urges the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) to provide a detailed follow-up plan for drug suppression after requesting over 90 million baht for 2027, expressing confusion over why drug problems keep increasing despite crackdowns.

At 10:30 a.m. on 7 July 2023, at the Parliament, during the extraordinary parliamentary committee meeting to review the 2027 budget bill, Amphorn Pinasa, a Democrat Party party-list MP and committee member, spoke about the Internal Security Operations Command's (ISOC) budget allocation of over 90 million baht designated for addressing the persistent drug problem threatening national security. He noted that ISOC's primary duties include monitoring, alerting, and assessing internal security threats. However, discussions in Parliament continue to highlight drug issues as a significant grassroots security concern, despite ongoing budget allocations and efforts.

Amphorn further stated that the crucial question society wants answered is: given ISOC's role, why does Thailand's drug problem show no signs of decline but continues to rise? He therefore demands ISOC to: 1. Provide documentation and concrete evidence regarding alerts, monitoring, and assessments ISOC has shared with other agencies, detailing actions taken and results achieved; and 2. Clarify the strategic direction for future collaboration with partner agencies within the requested budget of over 90 million baht, explaining how this integration will effectively break the drug cycle and solve the national drug problem, ensuring that public funds are not wasted on an issue worsening every year.
