Prime Minister Anutin ruled out the possibility of meeting Thaksin Shinawatra in Malaysia, citing a full day of meetings. He revealed he had already congratulated Thaksin on his release and nodded to acknowledge they have not met yet.
7 July 2026 GMT+7 Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, gave an interview at the Government House regarding his official visit to Malaysia on 9-10 July to discuss security and economic issues, addressing whether there would be a chance to meet with Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, who is currently in Malaysia. Anutin said it was not possible because his schedule in Malaysia starts early in the morning and includes meetings all day long. After the meetings, he must travel to the Sadao checkpoint in Songkhla Province to jointly open it with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
When asked if he had the chance to meet Thaksin after his release, Anutin replied, "I have already conveyed my congratulations." When reporters pressed if they had still not met in person, Anutin nodded and briefly said, "Yes."
