Progress at 90% for Construction of Royal Crematorium and Royal Funeral Ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother

Prime Minister Anutin is monitoring progress on the construction of the royal crematorium and preparations for the royal funeral ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, which is over 90% complete.


At 1:00 p.m. on 7 July 2026 GMT+7. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul followed up on the progress of constructing the royal crematorium, its associated buildings, the restoration of the royal chariot and palanquin, and the preparation of ceremonial equipment for the royal funeral of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. At the Vithansathapok Sala Building (Model Expansion Hall) at the ceremonial grounds of Sanam Luang.

Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the Prime Minister received a progress report on the construction of the royal crematorium, its associated buildings, restoration of the royal chariot and palanquin, and the preparation of ceremonial items for the royal funeral of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. The Fine Arts Department has carried out structural work on the royal crematorium as planned, achieving over 90% completion, with expected completion by October 2026. Work is being expedited to finish promptly due to the onset of the rainy season.


The Prime Minister also received a report from the Ministry of Culture via the Fine Arts Department, which is responsible for the construction related to the royal crematorium and associated buildings for Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendirathepdevadi, Princess Royal. The design is currently underway to comply with ancient royal customs, correct Thai architectural principles, and the royal titles bestowed, reflecting her dignified character to the highest honor. Once the design drafts of the royal crematorium and associated buildings are completed, they will be presented to the royal advisors for royal approval.

Following this, the Prime Minister toured the Ten Craftsmen Department's work, including the full-scale architectural pattern expansions, the crafting of sandalwood urns and the royal coffin at the sandalwood carving building, and the painting and decoration of sculptures at the sculpture painting building. He also inspected the construction site of the royal crematorium, its related structures, and the surrounding landscape, including the royal crematorium, the Throne of the Dhamma, the Judges' Pavilion, timber structures, agricultural terraces, and lotus ponds, to monitor overall progress and ensure work proceeds according to plan with all steps carried out in a manner befitting the royal honor.
