Jakrapop Excited to Become New MP Thaksin Advises Serving the Public Interest

Jakrapop reported himself as an MP, expressing excitement at becoming a representative. He revealed that Thaksin advised him to work for the public good and expressed concern that people in the country are so focused on political struggles they forget about national development.

On 8 July 2026 at 09:30 at the Parliament, Mr. Jakrapop Penkhae officially reported himself as a party-list MP for the Pheu Thai Party to the Secretariat of the House of Representatives. This followed his elevation on the party list to replace Mr. Prasert Chantrawongthong, who resigned as an MP. His spouse, Mr. Supaipol Penkhae, accompanied him.

After reporting, Mr. Jakrapop said he was excited to become an MP because it is an important and sacred position. The term 'representative' means representing all people, mediating interests where there is agreement and disagreement, to work on legislation and use the law to keep the country virtuous.

When asked if he sought advice from former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra before taking office on national development, Mr. Jakrapop said he has many mentors but asked Thaksin more than others because they are close. Thaksin advised him to work for the public interest and said if no one thanks you, do not seek gratitude; one day they will appreciate it. Thaksin is very concerned that people in the country focus too much on political conflicts and neglect national development. He is also worried about the insufficient connection between the rich and poor, causing communication breakdowns due to socioeconomic differences.

Thaksin also urged him to always think of the people first. Being an MP means you will not please everyone. To be a good MP, one must consider history, not just seek popularity today or tomorrow.

After reporting himself, Mr. Jakrapop attended the House of Representatives meeting, where he took the oath before commencing his duties.
