Anti-Corruption Commission Panel Discusses Local Exam Fraud SWU Rector and Testing Office Director Provide Scheduled Clarifications

The Anti-Corruption Commission panel discussed fraud in local administration exams, with the SWU Rector and the Testing Office Director providing explanations as scheduled. Meanwhile, the LAPD reported urgent business and could not attend. The panel chairman ordered strict prohibition of recording or live streaming the meeting without authorization.

On 9 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Asaphon Santraipob, Member of Parliament for Sisaket Province from the Bhumjaithai Party and chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission panel, chaired a meeting to follow up on fraud in competitive exams for local government civil service positions.

Before the meeting, Asaphon said that today they invited SWU, the Director-General of the Department of Local Administration, the LAPD, and the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand to join. The panel asked the anti-corruption organization to freely question anything unclear or suspicious that has not yet been answered.

Asaphon added that he intended to question the LAPD, noting the Deputy Minister of Interior had already reported discovering fraud involving 5,000 individuals out of 15,000 who were hired. Therefore, he wanted to ask whether these 5,000 can still work or if the LAPD will suspend them. However, the LAPD chairman later informed them he could not attend due to urgent matters, with no replacement sent. The panel will invite him again next time and will use its authority to summon if he does not attend.

Asaphon also spoke about future prevention measures, saying this issue is certain and today they must examine the entire process to understand its cause. He thanked the media and society for their interest, calling this a major issue. Since 2023, they have been fighting local exam fraud but had never caught anyone until now. This is the first time, involving a large organization, and they are committed to pursuing it fully. The panel will not interfere with agencies already working on the case but will monitor to ensure all offenders are punished.

After the interview, Asaphon began the meeting by inviting the SWU Rector, the Deputy Rector for Legal Affairs and University Council—who chairs the fact-finding committee—and the Director of the Testing Office to provide explanations. The press was not allowed during questioning and explanations. The chairman also emphasized that recording or live streaming of the meeting is prohibited unless authorized by the commission chairman.

Meanwhile, Dr. Narong Dechkijvikrom, MP from Thai Pakdee Party, proposed that today's explanations should be given privately to the relevant commissioners, asking unrelated persons to leave the room. This would keep questioning and answers confidential and yield the most accurate information. He said the session would resemble a court hearing, and separating interested or unrelated persons would allow clearer facts to be heard.
