The Prime Minister visited Malaysia, personally welcomed by Anwar Ibrahim, strengthening Thai-Malaysian leadership ties and advancing trade, investment, and cooperation to create new opportunities for the people of both countries.
At 11:20 a.m. on 9 July 2026 (local time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is one hour ahead of Thailand), Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his delegation, arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia on an official visit. Senior Malaysian representatives and officials from the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur welcomed the delegation.
On this occasion, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally greeted the Thai Prime Minister before accompanying him to the official welcome ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport VIP Reception Hall. The two leaders inspected a Guard of Honour together, and the Malaysian Prime Minister invited the Thai Prime Minister to travel in the same vehicle to the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya for the official welcome ceremony and formal talks.
Ms. Ratchada said the warm welcome reflected the close relationship and mutual trust between the two leaders, which forms a crucial foundation to drive cooperation into concrete results that benefit the people even more.
The government prioritizes leveraging good relations with neighboring countries to create economic opportunities and improve citizens' quality of life. This visit focuses on expanding trade, investment, logistics and transportation linkages, enhancing cooperation in agriculture and tourism, and developing border areas to increase access for Thai entrepreneurs, farmers, exporters, and workers to Malaysian and regional markets, thereby generating income, employment, and boosting national competitiveness.
Additionally, both sides will discuss cooperation in security, combating transnational crime, human trafficking, online scams, and coordination within ASEAN frameworks to strengthen regional safety, confidence, and stability—key factors for trade, investment, and tourism.
This afternoon, the Prime Minister is scheduled for a bilateral Four-Eye Meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister, followed by a full bilateral meeting where they will exchange views on promoting cooperation in promising sectors. They will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on agriculture and hold a joint press conference.
Afterward, the Malaysian Prime Minister will host a luncheon in honor of the Thai Prime Minister and his delegation. In the evening, the Thai Prime Minister will meet with representatives of the Thai private sector in Malaysia to hear their suggestions and promote trade, investment, and business expansion of Thai enterprises in Malaysia.
“The government aims for the strong relationship between Thailand and Malaysia to bring tangible benefits to the people, including increasing opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, job creation, and improving quality of life for citizens of both countries, while jointly strengthening ASEAN’s stability and sustainable growth,” said Ms. Ratchada. ."
