The Constitutional Court has scheduled a witness hearing on the case concerning election ballots featuring barcodes and QR codes for Wednesday, 26 August.
On 9 July 2026, the Constitutional Court considered a petition filed by the Ombudsman requesting the Court to adjudicate under Section 213 of the Constitution. The petitioner had received 22 complaints asking the Court to review and issue an opinion regarding the general election of Members of the House of Representatives held on 8 February 2026. The complaints concern the Election Commission and others (respondents) who organized the election using ballots printed with barcodes and QR codes. It is believed that these codes can reveal and verify voter identities and vote results, thus compromising the secrecy of the ballot. This action allegedly violates or conflicts with several constitutional provisions: Sections 4, 25, 32, 34, 50(7), 83(2), 85, 95, and 224.
After deliberation, the Constitutional Court decided that, for the benefit of the proceedings, a witness hearing will be held on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at 10:30 a.m. The hearing will take place in the courtroom on the 3rd floor of the Constitutional Court at the Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty, Ratchaburidirekrit Building.
