Deputy Minister of Education orders a severe disciplinary investigation into the director of a Kanchanaburi school for abusing 11 children, declaring that resignation will not exempt him.
On 9 July 2026, Mr. Akkharanat Kankittinan, Deputy Minister of Education and Director of the Ministry’s Rights and Liberties Protection Center, visited the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women to hold an urgent meeting. He heard complaints from parents and 11 female students, from grades 5 to 9, in Kanchanaburi Province, who reported being sexually abused and molested by their school director for over two years. Ms. Paveena Hongsakul, chairperson of the foundation, and representatives from the Office of the Basic Education Commission joined to plan urgent assistance and legal action.
Mr. Akkharanat stated that this incident is serious and unacceptable. He ordered the Office of the Basic Education Commission and the education area office to immediately form a disciplinary committee to investigate the school director. Although the director submitted his resignation on 3 July and is due to retire in two months, the disciplinary process will continue firmly. If found guilty, he will face the highest penalty of dismissal, which will result in losing all pension rights. Additionally, a disciplinary committee will be set up to investigate all school teachers who knew about the abuse but neglected their duties, with no exceptions for punishment.
Regarding psychological rehabilitation for the affected students, since the victims endured prolonged abuse, the Ministry of Education has coordinated with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Ministry of Public Health to send psychologists and officials to provide long-term mental health care. On the criminal case side, the Ministry of Education and the Office of the Basic Education Commission will fully support the victims’ families with legal assistance. The offenses will be prosecuted separately for each act, and they are confident the director will be imprisoned.
“The Ministry of Education has a firm policy to never allow wrongdoers to remain in the education system. The Ministry and the Office of the Basic Education Commission will stand firmly alongside the victims’ families to seek justice and ensure sustainable safety in educational institutions,” declared Mr. Akkharanat.
