Prime Minister Thanks Constitutional Court Justices, Vows to Use Loan Funds Wisely

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Constitutional Court justices after their ruling that the loan decree is lawful, affirming a commitment to use every baht wisely with hopes to stimulate the economy and reduce energy costs.

At 17:15 on 9 Jul 2026 local time in Kuala Lumpur—one hour ahead of Thailand—Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul commented on the Constitutional Court’s decision that the emergency decree authorizing the Finance Ministry to borrow funds to address the energy crisis and facilitate the country’s energy transition is constitutional. He thanked the justices for swiftly issuing their ruling, which gives the government confidence to use every baht and satang of the funds to maximize benefits for the public.

When asked if the government would work more comfortably now, Anutin said the government has always worked in good faith, fully committed to the people. "We monitor every baht and satang carefully because, as the name implies, this is ‘loan money,’ not budget funds. Therefore, every baht must be used efficiently. The interest rate is very low; the Finance Ministry negotiated it down to 1.2%. With such a low cost, the funds can generate added value and benefits, creating multiple rounds of economic circulation (Multiply Effect). Each cycle allows us to collect various income taxes. With such low interest, there is no concern about having enough budget to pay it. The loan spending plan includes energy restructuring to reduce electricity costs for citizens. We must seize this opportunity to push for widespread benefits so that the government, people, and country all gain, along with increased economic value."
