Thanakorn Emphasizes Governments Necessity to Issue 400 Billion Baht Loan Decree to Address Crisis, Urges Teng to Stop Political Games

Thanakorn emphasized the government's necessity to issue the 400 billion baht loan decree to support the economy during the crisis. He urged Teng Natthapong to stop making a fuss and cease playing political games over the people's suffering, saying it does not mean losing dignity.

On 10 July 2026, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, party-list MP of Bhumjaithai Party, commented on the Constitutional Court's ruling that the 400 billion baht loan decree does not violate the constitution. He thanked the court for easing the concerns of many parties, noting that this is a crisis case requiring swift action to benefit the people. Economic and energy crises severely impact the nation's economic security and people's livelihoods, but the government cannot use normal budget processes due to their lengthy duration and insufficient funds, which may delay timely responses. Therefore, borrowing to support the economy during a crisis is extremely urgent and necessary.

When asked about Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, party-list MP and leader of the People's Party, who said the ruling was as expected but he still believes the government has no urgent need for this loan decree and may be inserting projects that could be included in the annual budget bill, Thanakorn said that when the ruling did not align with Natthapong's wishes, he made a fuss instead of accepting the court's decision. Thanakorn noted that there are other channels to oversee budget use and if wrongdoing is found, legal procedures can be applied.

"The loan aims to help the people, provide relief to those affected, and stimulate the country's overall economy. It is the government's duty to ensure the safety and well-being of the people. Therefore, I ask the opposition to consider the hardships of the people awaiting assistance, stop playing political games on their suffering for once. Doing so would not cost much dignity. It is better to prioritize the people's benefit," he said.

Regarding Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, who expressed concern that this ruling might set a new precedent allowing the government to borrow more funds even when not in a crisis, Thanakorn said he believes no government would borrow money unless the country or people are truly in crisis. Especially under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership, all policies focus on genuine assistance that does not add burdens to the people. In contrast, Thanakorn said Abhisit's remarks might actually create a precedent prematurely. No government should consider borrowing before planning policies to help the people unless facing a real crisis.
