The government is pleased that in the first half of 2026, foreign film productions flocked to invest in Thailand, generating revenue of 4.025 billion baht. This underscores Thailand’s importance as a key destination in the global film industry and raises hopes of achieving record-high revenue again.
On 10 July 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangjan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that foreign film production investment figures in Thailand during the first half of 2026 showed 302 foreign productions obtained filming permits from the Department of Tourism. These projects created a total investment value in Thailand of 4.025 billion baht, reflecting the confidence and potential of content producers worldwide who continue to choose Thailand as a major production base in Asia. This figure represents more than half of the total investment value for the entire year of 2025. Moreover, given the trends in the first six months and large projects preparing to film in the second half of the year, Thailand has a strong chance of setting a new revenue record from foreign film productions again in 2026.
Ms. Ploytale stated that the types of work generating the highest investment values were feature films, with 21 productions totaling 1.989 billion baht; game shows and reality programs, with 22 productions totaling 811 million baht; and commercials, with 152 productions totaling 710 million baht. The top five countries or special administrative regions investing the most in Thailand were the United States with 1.543 billion baht, Hong Kong with 322 million baht, Finland with 300 million baht, Germany with 297 million baht, and the United Kingdom with 230 million baht.
"This success reflects Thailand’s potential as a world-class destination for film production, including filming locations, professional crews, production support systems, and internationally competitive investment incentives. Notably, the Thailand Film Incentive Measures, offering up to a 30% cash rebate for foreign film productions, is a government policy that helps propel Thailand toward becoming the regional hub for international film and content production. This policy continuously generates revenue, employment, and economic value for the country in the long term."
