Phakmon has called on Worasit, Deputy Minister of Interior (MOT 4), to withdraw from the process investigating corruption in local government exams after his uncle was named an accused. She highlighted public doubts about transparency, stressing that even if first names are concealed, the surname still appears, causing public distrust.
On 10 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Phakmon Noon-anun, a party-list MP from the People’s Party, stated that the corruption case involving local civil service exams has become a major national issue attracting significant public attention due to the enormous damages involved. The emerging evidence increasingly reveals a network of corruption operating as an organized scheme, possibly involving both high-ranking permanent officials and political figures.
Recently, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) accepted the 2025 local government civil service exam corruption case as a special case, involving 6,014 accused individuals. Among those named is Samrit Liangprasert, Chief Executive of Satun Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), who is the uncle of Worasit Liangprasert, Deputy Minister of Interior (MOT 4).
“I hope Mr. Worasit does not deny knowing or being close to his uncle. While legally the accused are presumed innocent and can present their facts to the NACC through due process, will society believe that the nephew responsible for the Department of Local Administration, who publicly vowed to pursue the case to the end, will truly do so? The accused is a very close relative, his father’s elder brother, his uncle. Will Mr. Worasit really dig to the root of this?” Phakmon said.
To ensure fairness, Phakmon called on Worasit to withdraw from the investigation process into local civil service exam corruption because society is raising questions leading to distrust. If he remains in his position, his role in the next cabinet reshuffle may become unstable.
“Even if you claim to conceal first names and treat guilt as a given, remember that the surname still appears. The public does not believe you will avoid interfering with evidence. They do not believe you will not favor allies. They doubt your intention to thoroughly investigate because, as I said, even if you find the root, it is the same family.”
Phakmon emphasized that Worasit should show integrity by withdrawing as he lacks legitimacy due to a close relative being accused. This would demonstrate sincerity and reassure the public that he is not involved or complicit in the exam corruption.
