Senate Whip Announces Achievements: 20 Laws Passed, 137 Questions Raised, 13 Independent Agency Board Appointments

The Senate Whip announced achievements including passing 20 laws, raising 137 questions, and appointing 13 individuals to independent agency boards.  


At 09:30 on 10 Jul 2026 GMT+7 at the Parliament, Mr. Phisit Apiwatnapong, a senator and spokesperson for the Senate Special Committee (Senate Whip), reported on the Senate's 2026 performance. The Senate held 30 regular sessions from 14 Mar to 11 Jul 2026, totaling 197 hours of discussion. There were 15 consultations addressing 233 issues. Regarding legislation, the Senate passed 20 bills: 10 approved as presented by the House of Representatives, 4 amended from the House's versions, 1 under joint committee review for amendments, 1 awaiting House consideration, and 2 at second reading in the Senate. Additionally, 2 bills lapsed due to the dissolution of Parliament and the new Cabinet not requesting further consideration.

Passed 20 laws.

Mr. Phisit added that in administrative oversight, there were 94 written questions, with 51 requests for ministers to answer in sessions. Ministers personally answered 22 questions; 8 remain unanswered, and 21 questions lapsed. Additionally, 43 questions requested answers in the Royal Gazette; 6 have been answered, 36 remain pending, and 1 lapsed. There were 44 oral questions, with 16 answered and 28 lapsed. Senate committees considered 52 matters, reviewing 51 and withdrawing 1, and examined 26 annual reports from various agencies or organizations.

Appointed 13 independent agency board members.

"Regarding appointments to board positions mandated by the Constitution or other laws, six positions have been reviewed: five appointments involving 13 individuals were approved. One position with one individual is under committee review for background checks and ethical conduct. Additionally, two positions involving seven selected individuals have been filled." Mr. Phisit stated.
