PM Announces Good News: Thai Shrimp to Export to Malaysia Within 30 Days

Shrimp farmers prepare to celebrate as the Prime Minister revealed that shrimp exports to Malaysia will be possible within 30 days after successful talks with Anwar.

On 10 July 2026 at The Signature Hotel Airport in Songkhla Province, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about progress and trade opportunities regarding Thailand’s shrimp exports to Malaysia. This follows the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on agricultural cooperation between the two countries on 9 July.

Anutin disclosed that following the MOU signing between the agricultural ministers of Thailand and Malaysia and their joint agreement, he and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar held discussions to expedite implementation steps. They agreed that relevant agencies on both sides should immediately adopt the agreement as a practical guideline alongside the ongoing documentation process to reduce delays and enhance trade opportunities for farmers. It is expected this mechanism will allow Thailand to start shrimp exports to the Malaysian market within 30 days from now.

"The agricultural ministers of both countries have signed the MOU and reached a clear consensus. I spoke with Prime Minister Anwar, and we agreed that, if possible, this should be treated as a practical guideline during the procedural period. Currently, the related agencies on both sides are working intensively to open the system as soon as possible," the Prime Minister said.

Regarding detailed conditions, delivery standards, food safety, and border facilitation, the Prime Minister stated he has assigned Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Suriya Jungrungreangkit, who directly oversees the ministry, to provide explanations and information to the public and businesses. The agreement is expected to drive the southern border economy and generate substantial, sustainable income for Thai shrimp farmers.
