Government Advances Household Debt Resolution, Successfully Mediates Over 27,000 Cases, Reducing Expenses by More Than 3.53 Billion Baht

The government continues to assist citizens in resolving household debt, reporting successful mediation in over 27,000 cases and reducing financial burdens by more than 3.53 billion baht. It also launches free debt relief fairs in six provinces from July to August.

On 11 July 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Pertwiwatthana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that the government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, prioritizes solving household debt issues, facilitating justice, and protecting citizens' rights. This is achieved through integrated cooperation among the Ministry of Justice, financial institutions, and relevant agencies to provide convenient, fair, and cost-free debt mediation processes, thereby reducing financial burdens and increasing household liquidity.

The Deputy Spokesperson stated that the Ministry of Justice, through the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, in partnership with the Department of Legal Execution and over 40 financial institutions, has implemented the 2026 Household Debt Resolution and Justice for the People Fair. This initiative assists debtors both before lawsuits and after court judgments, covering credit card debt, personal loans, vehicle hire-purchase loans, and student loans from the Student Loan Fund, by mediating debt settlements as an alternative to court proceedings.

Since February until now, 27,470 individuals have successfully completed mediation, involving total debts exceeding 5.926 billion baht. This has reduced citizens' financial burdens by over 3.53 billion baht and relieved guarantees for more than 20,555 co-signers. These results reflect the success of collaborative efforts between the government and financial institutions in providing tangible assistance to the public.

Ms. Lalida added that the government will continue to hold the 2026 Household Debt Resolution and Justice for the People Fair six more times between July and August 2026 GMT+7. These will take place in Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phuket, Yala, and Pathum Thani provinces. Citizens can access debt mediation services, legal consultations, and various justice-related services free of charge.

Interested individuals can pre-register via the websites of the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection or the Department of Legal Execution. For more information, they may contact the Justice Hotline at 1111, press 77 or 79, throughout the duration of the program.

“The government is committed to helping citizens resolve debt issues fairly, reduce expenses and disputes, and create opportunities for financial recovery. This is achieved through multi-sector cooperation and accessible, rapid, and free justice processes,” she said.
