The government is preparing to submit to the Cabinet a compensation plan for Isan farmers affected by eight past state infrastructure projects, along with the formation of ten working groups to closely oversee sustainable problem resolution.
On 11 July 2026, Second Lieutenant Phatthararusmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that following the petition submitted on 23 June by representatives of the Isan Farmers Assembly and the Isan Farmers Federation requesting government action to address impacts from state projects, the government promptly sought solutions. Recently, a committee meeting was held which concluded with concrete measures to alleviate the hardships of Isan farmers affected by state infrastructure projects.
The government focuses on addressing legal issues, social impacts, and cost-effectiveness to find fair solutions and compensate affected people in eight major projects, including land compensation for four reservoirs (Ban Thamnop, Huai Senong, Ampun, and Huai Saphong Noi), special relocation allowances for the Phroeng Khun Phet reservoir project in Chaiyaphum province, land compensation for over 5,353 displaced farmers in Surin province, and solutions for the Rasi Salai weir project in Sisaket and Roi Et provinces.
Second Lieutenant Phatthararusmi added that all relevant parties are currently finalizing information to present to the Cabinet for prompt approval of assistance measures. This will serve as a model for resolving disputes and impacts from state development projects in other areas. Additionally, to ensure transparency and accountability, the government has appointed one supervisory subcommittee and nine fact-finding working groups across nine provinces, totaling ten groups, to closely monitor progress in all affected areas.
