Deputy Interior Minister Insists Every Baht of Budget Must Improve Public Safety and Quality of Life, Emphasizes Prevention Over Remedy

Deputy Interior Minister Je Seth emphasized that every baht of the budget must be converted into public safety and improved quality of life. He ordered the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning to prepare disaster response plans based on the principle that prevention is better than remedy.

On 11 July 2026, Je Seth Thai Seth, Deputy Minister of Interior, addressed the House of Representatives during the consideration of the 2027 fiscal year budget bill. He affirmed that the Ministry of Interior prioritizes efficient, transparent, and maximally beneficial budget use to enhance safety and quality of life for people across the country. He stressed, "Every baht of the budget must be turned into safety and better quality of life for the people."

Je Seth stated that he has instructed the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning to expedite efforts in developing infrastructure, urban planning, and the construction and upgrading of public utilities to meet safety standards. This is to support sustainable urban and community development, aiming for citizens to benefit from quality, safe infrastructure that responds to the country's future growth.

He also ordered the department to prepare for the rainy season and flood situations by rapidly inspecting the stability and strength of embankment dams, drainage systems, government buildings, and infrastructure under their responsibility nationwide. Additionally, he directed support for provincial public works offices to assist citizens and local agencies promptly and effectively.

Je Seth further explained that Thailand has diverse terrain and varying risk levels across regions. Some areas face drought, while others suffer from floods, storms, or increasingly severe natural disasters driven by climate change. Therefore, infrastructure development and urban planning must incorporate disaster prevention and risk reduction measures simultaneously, ensuring effective preparedness and safety for people throughout the country.

Moreover, the Deputy Minister instructed the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning to formulate clear, concrete, and actionable disaster response plans. These plans should integrate collaboration with relevant agencies and closely consider input from local communities, adhering to the principle "prevention is better than remedy." The focus is on planning and risk reduction before incidents occur to ensure that every infrastructure project and investment ultimately enhances public safety and sustainably improves quality of life.
