Governor Chatchat inspected the subsiding road caused by water leaking into the construction site of the Purple Line South MRT tunnel. He ordered the removal of the pedestrian bridge to reduce pressure, instructed cement injection to support the soil layer, and emphasized the need for 24-hour monitoring to prevent further subsidence.
At 07:30 on 11 July 2026, Governor Chatchat Sitthiphan of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration livestreamed on his page “Chatchat Sitthiphan,” running approximately 14 kilometers from Thonglor district to Wongwian Yai to closely monitor officials' efforts to resolve the subsiding road and water leakage at the Purple Line South MRT tunnel construction site on Prachatipok Road.
Governor Chatchat revealed that this morning, officials would remove the pedestrian overpass to open space for repairing and installing grouting materials to strengthen the soil. The removal also helps reduce the weight pressing on the subsiding area to enhance safety during the work.
Assistant Professor Dr. Thanet Weerasiri, an expert in civil engineering, stated that monitoring data this morning (11 July) showed no additional subsidence in surrounding buildings. Measurement tools confirmed the area remains stable, although minor cracks have increased slightly on the road surface due to vibrations from repair machinery.
Officials are injecting cement and chemicals into the soil at depths of approximately 31-37 meters to reinforce the ground and seal underground gaps beneath the tunnel. They have installed inclinometers connected to a real-time monitoring system to continuously observe any movement of buildings and nearby areas 24 hours a day.
Governor Chatchat said the current situation remains stable. Recent rainfall has not affected the site because the leaking water is underground seepage from below, not surface rainwater from above.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration maintains a 30-meter radius safety zone and has prepared evacuation plans should the situation change. A command center has been established locally to closely assist residents.
Traffic on Prachatipok Road remains closed from Wongwian Yai to Ban Khaek Intersection. The public is advised to use Isaraphap Road, Lat Ya Road, or Somdet Chao Phraya Road instead. Despite the construction closure, residents in nearby areas can still access adjacent roads as usual.
Governor Chatchat confirmed that Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will continue monitoring the situation around the clock, overseeing ground subsidence, inspecting buildings, and ensuring public safety while expediting repair work to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
