Thaksin Intends to Step Back from Politics, Letting Younger Generation Lead Sutin Sees Meetings with National Leaders as Beneficial

Sutin views that Thaksin, along with Yingluck and Paethongtan, meeting national leaders is beneficial for the country and carries no political agenda. He revealed during a dinner that Thaksin intends to reduce his political involvement and let the younger generation of the Pheu Thai Party take the lead, although he still cares deeply about the party.

11 Jul 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Sutin Klangsaeng a party-list Member of Parliament for the Pheu Thai Party, gave an interview regarding Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra , Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra and Ms. Paethongtan Shinawatra, three former prime ministers from the Shinawatra family, traveling to meet Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, amid rumors of visits to several other countries and speculations about political motives. He said that just days before Thaksin’s trip abroad, he had dinner with Thaksin, Paethongtan, and several Pheu Thai politicians. As a senior colleague who had worked with Thaksin, the gathering was a casual conversation sharing personal matters, not a political meeting.

Sutin further revealed that Thaksin told everyone he planned to visit old friends with whom he had worked in various countries. He emphasized that these visits were not for political reasons or agendas but simply to see old friends. He added that if anything could benefit the country or support the government’s work, he would do so. Personally, I see this as beneficial to the country and highly appropriate, because Thaksin has excellent connections with national leaders and extensive experience in governance. These assets should not be wasted but rather leveraged to benefit the country.

Especially at a time when both the national and global economies face difficulties, Thaksin’s experience is highly valuable and should be utilized at the right and necessary moment. Regarding the three former prime ministers traveling together, I see no political significance; it is a family gathering. All those in the group have previously worked with these national leaders.

Sutin also revealed that during the dinner with Thaksin and Pheu Thai leaders, Thaksin emphasized that he would significantly reduce his political role going forward. He intends to leave party management to the younger generation on the party’s executive committee. Nevertheless, his care and concern for everyone and the party remain strong because of his deep connection to the party.
