Governor Chatchat Orders Urgent Removal of Broken Condominium Crane Arm and Continues Monitoring of Subsiding Road at Wongwian Yai

Governor Chatchat inspected the broken crane arm at a condominium construction site and ordered the road to be closed for urgent removal. Meanwhile, the subsiding road at Wongwian Yai remains an area under close surveillance for ground sinking. Authorities found seven residents still refusing to move out and have instructed close monitoring.

On 12 July 2026, Mr. Chatchat Sitthiphan, Governor of Bangkok, visited the site to follow up on the broken crane arm incident at the condominium project near Charoen Muang intersection close to Wat Duang Khae in Pathumwan district, as well as the subsiding road situation at Wongwian Yai.

The broken crane arm incident occurred yesterday (11 July) at about 17:00 hrs due to strong gusts during a storm, causing the condominium crane arm to break and rest on the building itself without falling to the ground below. No injuries were reported.

Today, dismantling of crane parts and removal of the counterweight will begin gradually, with an emphasis on strict safety measures. Contractors were instructed to coordinate with the Expressway Authority of Thailand and relevant agencies to plan temporary traffic closures only where necessary during the removal process.

Following that, Governor Chatchat visited the Wongwian Yai area to monitor progress, which remains an area under ground subsidence surveillance. Overall conditions are stable, with no additional cracks found and the latest measurements showing no further sinking. Although a storm passed through, rainfall there was light, so operations continue as planned.

Meanwhile, water inflow into the tunnel has significantly decreased from about 50 cubic meters per hour to approximately 20 cubic meters per hour. In addition, monitoring cameras and building tilt measurement devices (Tiltmeter/Inclinometer) have been installed, with results remaining normal.

Regarding assistance for affected residents, most have relocated to hotels or private accommodations, with the contractor covering all costs. However, as of this morning's update, seven residents still refuse to leave the building, so officials have been instructed to closely follow up and provide support.

Traffic in the surrounding areas is orderly, and authorities are considering reopening the route for regular bus services to pass through the area again.
