Abhisit Urges Use of External Personnel to Investigate Local Government Exam Corruption, Fears Cover-up Ending at Lower-Level Officials

Abhisit suggests using external personnel to investigate corruption in local government civil service exams under the Department of Local Administration, fearing the case might be closed with only lower-level officials held accountable.

At 15:25 on 12 July 2026 in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Party-list MP and leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about the multiple committees formed to investigate corruption among local government officials, amid concerns that they might not reach the top culprits. He said he is worried because the largest investigative committee, chaired by Pakorn Nilprapunt, Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs, should instead involve outsiders who can genuinely pursue the case. He added that insiders often face challenges in fully exposing those truly in power, and investigations might end with only lower-level officials being punished.
