The government revealed that regarding the water leakage issue in the Purple Line MRT tunnel, the footbridge at the incident site has been removed and soil quality improved at one of five points. A complaint center was ordered to be established to facilitate public convenience, with assistance provided to 105 people so far.
On 12 July 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertwiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that the government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, prioritizes public safety. The Ministry of Transport is urgently implementing measures to fix water leakage entering the Purple Line MRT tunnel construction project between Tao Poon and Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road), near Wongwian Yai intersection. This includes reinforcing soil strength to reduce underground water seepage while closely monitoring impacts on buildings and supporting affected people.
The Deputy Spokesperson said that Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, has been closely monitoring the situation and assigned the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) to expedite remediation efforts. The contractor has now completed removing the footbridge at the incident site and performed soil grouting at one of five points, continuing work at the remaining sites to control underground water leakage and stabilize the construction area.
Ms. Lalida added that recent monitoring shows the volume of water entering the tunnel has decreased compared to the previous day, allowing a reduction in pump operation. Meanwhile, the MRTA continues to measure building movement within a 30-meter radius every 30 minutes. Results indicate a downward trend in building shifts and road surface settlement, reflecting that remedial measures are progressively effective.
The Deputy Spokesperson said that to alleviate impacts on the public, the MRTA and contractor have established a complaint center at the King Taksin Monument to facilitate and provide assistance to affected individuals. So far, 105 people have sought help, and coordination is ongoing with 32 residents who have yet to contact the center to ensure comprehensive support.
Affected individuals can contact the complaint center at the King Taksin Monument or call 08 4356 5211 directly to request assistance.
“The government will closely monitor the situation and expedite remedial measures based on engineering principles, along with fully supporting and compensating affected individuals, to resolve the situation quickly and ensure maximum public safety,” Ms. Lalida said.
