
The Prime Minister met with Singapore's Foreign Minister to expand economic cooperation and support the regional power grid, enhancing energy security and investment in the region.
At 10:45 a.m. on 13 July 2026, at the reception room on the 2nd floor of the Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul welcomed Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, on his courtesy visit. Both sides held friendly discussions to continue the strong ties between Thailand and Singapore, exchanging views on expanding cooperation in economy, energy, and regional connectivity. The Prime Minister later hosted a luncheon to strengthen their relationship.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Singapore Foreign Minister for visiting Thailand and appreciated his visit to pay respects at the funeral of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Thepvaraporn, Princess Rajasarinisiri Patchar Mahavajraratchathida.
They also discussed preparations for the Thailand–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat to be held in Thailand later this year. The Prime Minister welcomed the Singapore Prime Minister and expressed hope that leading business executives would join to expand trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries. They agreed to use the Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) as a mechanism to prepare for this leadership meeting.
Regarding energy, both parties agreed to elevate the ASEAN Power Grid project, which links the electricity systems of Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. This aims to strengthen regional energy security, reduce dependence on external energy sources, enhance joint energy management capacity, and mitigate global uncertainties, especially those in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister emphasized that infrastructure and energy connectivity are crucial steps toward building Seamless Connectivity across ASEAN. This will enhance the region’s competitiveness, attract investment, ensure economic security, and improve citizens’ quality of life in the long term.
The Prime Minister has continuously promoted this concept and previously discussed with the Malaysian Prime Minister to advance ASEAN connectivity, aiming for tangible outcomes and mutual benefits for the region.
