Thailand’s public health sector makes a global impact as New York’s "Travel And Tour World" ranks Thailand as the world's second top medical tourism destination.
On 13 July 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Pertwiwatthana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the global news that Thailand was ranked the world’s second-best destination for medical tourism in 2026. This ranking came from the Top 50 Medical Tourism Destinations in the World for 2026 by Travel And Tour World (TTW), a leading international travel media based in New York, USA.
This achievement reflects international confidence in Thailand’s public health capabilities and is a tangible result of the government’s efforts, under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, to earnestly and continuously promote Thailand as a Medical & Wellness Hub.
The top 10 medical tourism destinations worldwide for 2026 are: 1) Turkey, 2) Thailand, 3) India, 4) Mexico, 5) South Korea, 6) Malaysia, 7) Costa Rica, 8) Singapore, 9) United Arab Emirates, and 10) Colombia. These rankings clearly show Thailand remains a world leader and is the top medical destination in Asia.
The government deputy spokesperson stated that Thailand’s appeal to patients and tourists worldwide stems from its comprehensive strengths: a diverse range of treatments excelling in cosmetic surgery, dentistry, cardiology, orthopedics, fertility treatment, oncology, preventive medicine, and holistic wellness services. Thai hospitals hold numerous international accreditations (JCI), staffed by highly skilled personnel, and equipped with advanced technology and diagnostic centers. The patient experience is excellent, with dedicated support for international patients including multilingual interpreters and telemedicine services. Furthermore, treatment costs are competitive globally, with reasonable waiting times.
“Being ranked second worldwide is a proud accomplishment. The government will continue to relentlessly improve medical service quality alongside promoting tourism and investment to create jobs and income, pushing Thailand to be a sustainable global destination for medical and wellness tourism,” Ms. Lalida concluded.
