In Thailand, the industrial sector accounts for 40% of the country's total energy consumption. Therefore, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting clean energy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions have become vital strategies to lower production costs, ensure energy security, and boost national competitiveness. The Ministry of Industry has continuously supported operators through measures such as promoting the installation of rooftop solar power systems, revising regulations to facilitate clean energy investments, encouraging the use of high-efficiency machinery and equipment, and developing personnel and experts in modern energy systems.Tags: [energy efficiency, industrial energy use, clean energy policy, greenhouse gas reduction, Thailand]
The ministry has also promoted industrial product standards (TISI) for energy efficiency, currently covering 41 standards including solar panels, wind energy, energy storage systems, and generators powered by biomass and waste. Meanwhile, the Thai Industrial Standards Institute is working to designate solar panels as a regulated product with mandatory standards, expected to be enforced by early 2027.Tags: [energy standards, solar panels, TISI, clean energy regulation, Thailand]
The Ministry of Industry is advancing the use of domestically produced parts and equipment following the Local Content Ladder approach, starting with assembling solar panels in Thailand and expanding to producing key components where Thailand has standards and capabilities, such as frames, glass, junction boxes, cables, mounting structures, combiner boxes, and transformers. This aims to increase the value of Thai industry, reduce import dependence, and build a strong supply chain for the clean energy industry. Seagate’s clean energy investment in Thailand signals confidence in the country’s potential and the future of its industries. This project will serve as a model to drive growth in Thai industry based on innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability.Tags: [local content, solar components, clean energy supply chain, industrial investment, Thailand]
